Katarina Wit first started skating at five. Soon, her talents became apparent and she was invited to Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. The school where she was enrolled she got to know their coach Jutta Muler. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Since that time her elegance and grace captured the eye of all. Then she began dominating the sport. Olympic Erfolg at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women in a highly competitive contest. A more competitive contest afterward, she took home her gold medal. She did not win the free skating contest however, she was awarded gold for her performance during the mandatory figure and short program. Witt was the only woman since Sonja Haenie to be the winner of a second time in figure skating. Hall of Fame Witt, who made it big in the film industry as an actor, returned for figure skating, competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. While she was not able to win a medal, Witt enchanted her audience despite placing seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
